STUDIO MAKKINK & BEY

Rianne Makkink (*1964) and Jurgen Bey (*1965)

Jurgen Bey is one of the Netherlands' best-known designers. Together with architect Rianne Makkink, he founded Studio Makkink & Bey in Rotterdam in 2002. Supported by a design team, they have been operating their design practice since then. Studio Makkink & Bey investigates the various domains of applied art while studying the tension between the private and public domain. Taking a critical stance towards the designing of public space, architecture, interiors, exhibitions and products is pivotal.

Jurgen Bey teaches at the Royal College of Art in London and has been appointed Director of the Sandberg Institut in Amsterdam in 2010.

Besides the large amount of realized projects in different venues all over the world, the works of Makkink & Bey have been exhibited at KadE Amersfoort, Designhuis Eindhoven, DMY Berlin, NAI Maastricht, Z33 Hasselt, Liljevalchs Konsthall Stockholm, and Contrasts Gallery, Shanghai.
