Martí Guixé (*1964)

Martí Guixé was formed as an interior and industrial designer in Barcelona and Milan. Living and working in Berlin in the 1990s, he formulated a new way to understand the culture of products. Guixé started to exhibit his work in 1997; his designs are characterized by the search for new product systems, the introduction of design in food ambits and presentation through performance. His non-conventional gaze provides brilliant and simple ideas of a curious seriousness. In 2001, as a statement against the limited scope of the traditional designer and to open new possibilities for the industry, Guixé started an ex-designer movement, defining himself by the same name.

Guixé is based in Barcelona and Berlin and works as a designer for world-wide companies such as Alessi, Authentics, Camper, Cha-cha, Chupa-Chups, Corraini, Danese, Dentsu, Desigual, Droog Design, Drill,  Galeria H2O Barcelona, Imaginarium, Isee2, Kesselskramer, Magis, Moleskine, Nani Marquina, Rome Film Festival, Saporiti Italia, Very Lustre and Watx.

His designs, installations and performances have been shown in several international group shows as well as solo projects, among them MoMA, New York; Mudac, Lausanne; MACBA, Barcelona; MARTa, Herford; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Design Museum, London and Performa09, New York etc. Among his awards are the National Design Price of the Generalitat de Catalunya 2007, the Design Plus Award Frankfurt Ambiente 2004 and the Useful and Agreeable Design Award Vancouver 2004.

Guixés work is present in several private and public collections such as MoMa, New York; FRAC, Nord-Pas de Calais; FRAC,Lille; Design Museum, London; Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich as well as The Israel Museum, Jerusalem.
